First-year Tiger will vie for chance at NCAA Championships in late May
INDIANAPOLIS – Mizzou Women's Golf freshman Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) was selected as one of six individuals to compete at the 2017 NCAA Regional in Albuquerque, N.M., announced Thursday (April 27).
"I feel incredibly honored to be able to continue my play this season in New Mexico," Yuen exclaimed. "It means a lot to me to have my coaches and my teammates supporting me all the way through. Without them, I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm excited to compete and cannot wait to see where this will lead me to. Go Tigers!"
"Although we were disappointed in not making the NCAA Regional as a team this year, the news that Jess (Yuen) made it as an individual was fantastic," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "She has been rock steady for us this spring and had her best 54-hole event this past weekend at the SEC Championships. It's moments like this that can really build up a player's confidence."
Yuen will compete in two weeks (May 8-10) out west in hopes for a qualifying bid at the 2017 NCAA Championships. This year's finale will take place in Sugar Grove, Ill., at Rich Harvest Farms (May 19-24).
The first-year Tiger is one of 384 total participants slated to compete at four separate NCAA Regional sites. Of these players, 132 will advance to the NCAA Championships. Yuen is slated to compete at The Championship Golf Course on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
This year, Yuen participated in all nine tournaments for the Tigers and tallied a team-low average score of 72.81. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native finished even par or better four times, highlighted by a 5-under finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout (Oct. 23-25, 2016). Yuen finished top 25 individually in seven of nine tournaments, including a pair of top 10 placements.
