Cox, Mayes, Lewis, Lavallee and Eierman all enter the tournament as top-seeds
CLEVELAND – In advancement of this weekend's Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the league office released the pre-seeding for the tournament. Five Tiger wrestlers will begin the tournament as the top seed heading into the tournament, while two others will begin as the second seed.
Mizzou seeks its fifth consecutive MAC Tournament Championship and sixth overall (Big 12 title in 2012) when #TigerStyle takes the mat on Saturday. Last year, five Tigers captured individual conference titles as the Tigers won their fifth straight title by a margin of 34 points.
Five Tigers – redshirt freshman 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.), redshirt senior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.), redshirt junior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.), redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.) and senior 197-pounder J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.) – all rank atop their respective weight class. Cox and Lewis return as defending champions, as Cox seeks to become the second four-time conference champion in program history (Drake Houdashelt, 2012-15) and Lewis looks to grab his second title in as many years.
Redshirt sophomore 133-pounder John Erneste (Kansas City, Mo.) and redshirt freshman heavyweight Austin Myers (Alexandria, Ky.) will each enter their first MAC Championship ranked second in their weight class. Redshirt freshman 174-pounder Dylan Wisman (Winchester, Va.) begins the tournament as the four-seed, while redshirt junior 125-pounder Barlow McGhee (Rock Island, Ill.) and redshirt senior 184-pounder Matt Lemanowicz (Lee's Summit, Mo.) each enter as five-seeds. McGhee will enter the tournament as the reigning champion after capturing last year's MAC title at 125 pounds.
The MAC Championships will begin at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday and 12 p.m. CT on Sunday at the McLeod Center. A live stream of the event will be available through ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
