Ward Wins Two Titles as No. 13 @MizzouGym Wins Quad Meet

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore Britney Ward (Ozark, Missouri) claimed the vault and beam titles as the No. 13 Missouri gymnastics team picked up three wins Friday night at the Hearnes Center. Mizzou scored a 195.725 to win the quad meet after defeating No. 25 Iowa State (195.350), No. 13 George Washington (194.350) and Lindenwood (194.100). Mizzou improved to 8-3 overall on the season with the three victories.
Ward's two event crowns were her team-leading sixth and seventh of the season.
The Tigers opened the meet with a 49.050 on vault, the team's six-consecutive score above a 49. Ward led the way with her winning 9.925, which gave the sophomore four scores of 9.925 or higher in six vaults this season. She entered the meet ranked tied for 14th nationally on the event. In addition to Ward's total, freshman Aspen Tucker (Lehigh Acres, Florida) earned a 9.850 and junior Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Georgia) scored a 9.825. Additionally, sophomore Madeleine Huber (St. Louis, Missouri), senior Angie Kern (Columbia, Missouri) and junior Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tennessee) all earned 9.725s.
Miller and Tucker notched 9.775s on bars in the second rotation as Missouri went 48.575 as a team. Ward and sophomore Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Alabama) both tallied 9.725s as well.
Ward's second title of the meet came after a 9.875 on beam as the Tigers earned a 48.950 on the apparatus. Junior Tia Allbritten (Garland, Texas) went 9.825 for the second week in a row and junior Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minnesota) notched a 9.800. Sophomore Allison Bower (Mesa, Arizona) and Tucker added 9.725s.
Missouri concluded the night with a team total of 49.150 on the floor exercise, the second-highest score on the event so far this season. Harris anchored the lineup with a 9.875, followed closely behind by a 9.850 from Schugel. Tucker earned a 9.825 and Huber and Kern contributed scores of 9.800 to round out the rotation.
Tucker scored a 39.175 to place second in the all-around.
The Tigers head to St. Charles, Missouri, to compete in the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 17 at the St. Charles Family Arena. Mizzou will take on No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 LSU and No. 9 Georgia in the podium meet.
