BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mizzou Volleyball junior Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) was named Week 10 Southeastern Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday (Oct. 30) by the league's office.
The honor marks Munlyn's second weekly award by the SEC office this season. Overall, the Tiger middle blocker has produced nine weekly honors from the conference over her career. Munlyn was recognized as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week twice in her 2016 sophomore campaign.
"Alyssa had a great week for us," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "She continues to come to practice every day to get better and the results are showing up on game days. She is providing a great example for our younger players on how to approach daily practice as well. We're all very proud of her!"
Mizzou (14-9, 7-3 SEC) claimed two road victories this past week with wins at Ole Miss (Oct. 25) and Georgia (Oct. 29). Over her recent two-match stretch, Munlyn posted four solo blocks and 16 total blocks (2.00 per set), keying the Tigers' outstanding blocking efforts and perfect record on the court.
In Oxford, Miss., this past Wednesday, Munlyn matched her single-match career-high with four solo blocks. Four days later in Athens, Ga., she produced exactly eight total blocks again, as the Tigers finished with an SEC single-match high 17.0 total blocks. Overall this year, Munlyn has recorded eight-plus total blocks in a match seven times.
Through Mizzou's 23 matches played this season, Munlyn currently paces the SEC with 140 total blocks and 119 block assists. She also places second with 1.57 blocks per set. In SEC only action, Munlyn leads the conference with 1.68 blocks per set and 62 total blocks.
Following her recent defensive excellence, Munlyn continued to climb the Mizzou single-season and career all-time rankings. Currently, her 140 total blocks this year ranks third, 119 block assists ranks T-2nd and 1.57 blocks per set ranks highest all-time in a single season in Tiger history.
In the Mizzou career individual record book, Munlyn's 442 total blocks ranks third while her 82 solo blocks and 360 block assists each rank fourth-best.
