The Tigers opened their 2017 practice schedule in unique fashion
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Softball officially began its 2017 practice schedule on Monday, Jan. 9, with a unique midnight practice inside Devine Pavilion. Head Coach Ehren Earleywine gathered this year's Tiger roster beginning at 12 a.m. (CT) on Monday evening, as the clock officially transitioned into Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The Tigers arrived plenty early to Monday evening's late practice, as they began stretching for their 300-yard shuttles and conditioning tests. The infamous "300's" begin with a group of players starting in the end zone of the Mizzou Football indoor field, sprinting 50 yards and returning to the starting point. Each Tiger will repeat the 50-yard bursts three times in order to complete their first run. Following a five minute resting period, each Tiger completed the trio of 50-yard sprints again one final time.
Following the two sets of 300's, Coach Earleywine and the Tigers' staff will evaluate the times and determine if they passed or failed their predetermined benchmarks. Typically, the first practice and rounds of conditioning of the Mizzou season results in few successful 300's. In this year's go-around, a total of seven Tigers passed their first attempt at the 300's and went on to partake in a normal batting practice session. For the individuals who didn't pass Monday evening's conditioning test, they will have an opportunity to once again conquer the challenging feat every other practice.
