Mizzou Football will use Show-Me Brand to support traditional branding methods
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Athletics and Mizzou Football have unveiled an updated branding element – Show-Me - for the 2016-17 athletic season, supplementing the traditional Tiger Head logo and traditional Mizzou script. The Show-Me brand concept ties Mizzou's current football tradition to the past while emphasizing the pride points of what it means to be from the great state of Missouri.

"Having a strong brand presence online is crucial; it's all about perception and every detail counts," senior digital media producer Ali Fisher said. "The new Show-Me campaign gives us the opportunity to move the Mizzou Brand forward and to the next level. Not only are we updating the look of Mizzou Football, but we are also still maintaining a traditional look within our creative and social content. A look that means something to the history of Mizzou and to the passion of our fan base."
The Show-Me brand features four key elements that attempt to honor Mizzou's rich past while looking to the future as Mizzou competes alongside the nation's best in the premier athletic conference, the SEC. Below is a look at the cornerstone elements of the branding.

Show Me
"I come from a state that raises corn and cotton, cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I'm from Missouri, and you have got to show me."
Those were the words of former Missouri state representative Willard Duncan Vandiver during a speech in Philadelphia in 1899. Little did Vandiver know that the latter part of that quote would come to personify the entire population of a state. The guarded skepticism portrayed in Vandiver's quote has bred a culture of proud Missourians who are simply not gullible. Rather than believing everything that they hear, Missourians will wait until you show them. That is what Coach Odom will aim to do at Mizzou.
Adopting the Show-Me philosophy, Coach Odom and his staff are doing everything that they can to put a product on the field that every Missourian can be proud of. This is Missouri, where we let our work do the talking. Coach Odom has five key things that he would like his team to show Missouri fans this season: toughness, team, enthusiasm, determination and attitude.

State Outline
A staple of the Mizzou Basketball court design from 1990-2011, the state of Missouri outline has rarely carried over to the football program – until now. A priority for Coach Odom and his staff is to lock down the Missouri borders and put a product on the field that every Missourian can identify with. The state border seen throughout the Show-Me branding signifies that Mizzou is the state's flagship organization and the only power five school in the state. Just as fans across the state are proud when backing Mizzou, Coach Odom and his staff want fans to know that he and his team represent more than an organization; they represent the entire state of Missouri.

1839
A key element of the Show-Me mantra is honoring the past success of Mizzou. A land grant university, Mizzou was founded in 1839 as the first public institution of higher learning west of the Mississippi River. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, the University of Missouri is a place that many across the state call their alma mater. The 1839 in Mizzou's Show-Me branding is an homage to all who have attended Mizzou and all who have cheered its athletic programs over the years. And did we mention, Coach Odom also wore No. 39 during his playing days at Mizzou.

Diamonds
An image that has become synonymous with Mizzou Football gameday are the diamonds that have donned both the north and south endzones at Memorial Stadium. The root of the diamond design can be traced all the way back to the 1935 season while the more traditional look of the diamonds first took shape in 1953. The words 'Mizzou' and 'Tigers' first appeared in 1975 and that design held until 1983 when the Diamonds took a 15-year hiatus, due in large part to Mizzou replacing its natural grass with OmniTurf. In 1997, major renovations were made to Memorial Stadium, including a 'Diamond Vision' video board over the Rock M in the north endzone. The Diamonds were then reintroduced to Faurot Field in 1998 and have been a mainstay since that time. From 1998-2011, the Diamonds contained 'Missouri' before moving to the current six-diamond format with 'Mizzou' spelled out in each endzone prior to Mizzou's inaugural season in the SEC. The six-diamond look was used as inspiration for the 'Show-Me' campaign as the six-letter slogan fits perfectly inside the endzone diamonds. The diamond pattern will be highlighted throughout the Show-Me branding.

The Show-Me brand additions come following Mizzou's rebrand with Nike, prior to the 2012-13 athletic season. The 2012-13 rebrand came after a decade-long partnership with Nike. Mizzou worked with Nike designers on a special project to help bring the university's brand values to the surface and create a color, font and logo palate that help reflect those values. That identity system set a foundation for all athletic communication including products, uniforms, fan gear and facilities for this generation and future generations.
While that foundation is still in place, the Show-Me brand elements will be featured largely online and on Mizzou's social media accounts, while also having a presence on in-venue graphics and signage. Show-Me will also serve as the foundation for the recruiting efforts for Mizzou Football moving forward under Coach Odom.
