INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Two from Mizzou Wrestling, J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.) and alum Alan Waters (Kansas City, Mo.) will compete as members of Team USA in the United World Wrestling Men's Freestyle World Cup, June 11-12, at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The World Cup is a dual-style tournament and features the top eight teams from last year's World Championships.
The eight national teams are divided into two divisions and wrestle round-robin duals within the division before matching up for the placement round. Group A consists of Russia, Georgia, Turkey and Mongolia while Iran, Azerbaijan, India and the United States make up Group B.
Team USA will open on Saturday with a dual against India at 5:30 p.m. (CT) followed by a dual with Azerbaijan at 8 p.m. (CT). On Sunday, USA will face Iran at 2 p.m. (CT). The fifth- and seventh-place matches will take place at 3:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, followed by the third-place match at 6:45 p.m. (CT) and the first-place bout at 8 p.m. (CT).
FloWrestling.org will provide a live broadcast of the event.
The World Cup event will be the second-to-last competition for Cox before he heads to Rio de Janeiro to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in August. Cox will wrestle in the Grand Prix of Germany from July 2-3. Waters competed in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in April and finished in fourth place in the freestyle 57 kg weight class.
