Woodson Claims All-American Honor on Day Three

The senior raced to his first podium finish at the outdoor championship meet

EUGENE, Ore. – The Mizzou Track & Field men closed their competition at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Friday (June 10) with a podium finish from senior Markesh Woodson in the 100m dash. Woodson was one of three Tigers to compete during the day, as fellow-senior Tony Carodine and sophomore John Warren faced off against the triple jump field.

The Tigers aren't quite done yet, though, as sophomore Karissa Schweizer is set to take on the women's 5000m run competition at 7:25 p.m. CT on Saturday (June 11).

#MIZTF DAY THREE RECAP
Woodson entered Friday's 100m dash final with a PR already under his belt after hitting 10.03 during Wednesday's preliminary round. That time, No. 3 in the championship field, was also the No. 3 time in the NCAA this season heading into the weekend and put him just outside of the Mizzou school record (10.00c). Although he wouldn't repeat that PR run during the final, running into a solid headwind of 2.3, his 10.32 crossing was good to land him a sixth-place position on the All-American podium.

Woodson is the second Tiger to earn First Team All-American this week after junior Alyssa Applebee placed seventh in the pole vault on Thursday.

Rounding out the day's competitors was the triple jump duo of senior Tony Carodine and sophomore John Warren, who both capped their PR seasons with Second Team All-American honors. Both hit top marks of 15.74m (51-7.75), but Warren just edged out Carodine for a 12th place finish with his second-best jump of 15.70m (51-6.25). Carodine closed just behind in 13th overall.

#MIZTF DAY FOUR PREVIEW
Sophomore Karissa Schweizer will close out the 2016 NCAA Championships competition for the Tigers on Saturday with the women's 5000m run. A first-time qualifier into the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Schweizer enters the meet with a PR of 15:58.09 from the Mt. SAC Relays earlier this season.

#MIZTF DAY TWO RECAP

Junior Alyssa Applebee highlighted the second day of competition for the Tigers, landing on the podium for the women's pole vault with her seventh-place finish. Her final bar of 4.20m (13-9.25) was just off of her school record mark of 4.22m (13-10) from the NCAA West Preliminary Round two weeks ago.
Senior Ser Whitaker closed out the two-day decathlon on Friday with a 15th place finish in the field, earning a Second Team All-American honor in his first NCAA Championships competition.
For the first time since the 1980s, the Tigers qualified women's relays into the NCAA Championship meet as both the 4x100m and 4x400m squads advanced into the finals. Both teams have had record years, resetting three records in the 4x100m and four in the 4x400m. The 4x100m squad of freshman Maya Cody, junior LaQuisha Jackson, senior Alyssa Felton and junior Sandrae Farquharson leveled the field between the two squads on Thursday, hitting their fourth school record with a 44.31 crossing to place 13th in the field and earn Second Team All-American honors.
Junior Valerie Thames rounded the All-American finishers from day two, running just off her PR with a 13.23 finish for 16th.

#MIZTF DAY ONE RECAP

A series of Second Team All-Americans kicked off events at Historic Hayward Field on Wednesday, starting with a ninth-place finish in the 400m dash by freshman Kahmari Montgomery. Montgomery just missed out on qualifying into the final with his 45.81 finish, ending what has been a historic debut year.
In the pole vault, fellow-freshman Matthew Ludwig also closed a record debut season with a Second Team All-American honor. Ludwig's final bar of 5.30m (17-4.50) in the pole vault was good for a tenth-place finish in the field.
Junior Reinhard Van Zyl rounded out the Tigers' competitors on day one, taking 13th in the javelin with a top toss of 70.25m (230-5).
