- Riding a four-game winning streak, Mizzou Baseball will play for Braggin' Rights on Tuesday against border rival Illinois in a neutral site game in Sauget, Ill., at GCS Ballpark Tuesday night at 6 p.m. SEC Network will carry the game live with Mark Neely and Mike Rooney on the call. KTGR 103.1 FM/1580 AM will have the game on the radio waves in the Mid-Missouri area as well.
- Mizzou leads the all-time series with Illinois, 13-12, after falling 4-3 at GCS Ballpark blast season. Mizzou has won six of the last eight with the Illini's only two wins in that span coming in 2013 and 2015. Tim Jamieson is 6-2 vs. Illinois. This is the second meeting between the two teams at GCS Ballpark. The two had previously met four times at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, with Mizzou winning three of those four meetings.
- Mizzou is riding its first four-game winning streak since March 5-11 after a perfect 4-0 mark last week. Mizzou opened the winning streak with a dominant 17-9 win over No. 23 Missouri State last Tuesday at Taylor Stadium. Mizzou then swept Tennessee at home for its first SEC series sweep since March 15, 2015, at Georgia. Below are some notables for Mizzou during the four-game winning streak
- Mizzou is hitting .324 while averaging 9.0 runs per game
- Mizzou boasts a 36-6 strikeout-walk ratio and walked just one batter in the three-game series vs. Tennessee
- Mizzou is averaging a strikeout per inning during the streak
- Mizzou has allowed just 15 earned runs over the streak
- Junior SS Ryan Howard is hitting .500 (9-for-18) with seven runs, six RBI and a double and a homer
- Senior 1B Zach Lavy is hitting .400 (6-for-15) with 10 RBI, two homers and a double with four runs
- Seven Mizzou players are hitting .300 or better during the streak with 11 different players scoring a run
- Mizzou's 2-3-4 hitters (Jake Ring, Howard, Lavy) are a combined 21-for-50 (.420) with 15 runs, 17 RBI, 2 doubles, 3 homers
- Mizzou's starting pitchers have allowed just six earned runs over 26.0 IP (2.08 ERA) with a 26-1 strikeout-walk ratio
- Mizzou senior 1B Zach Lavy was sensational last week, continuing a season that is worthy of postseason honors. Lavy hit .400 last week with a pair of homers and a double while driving in 10 runs. He had a pair of game-tying hits in the eighth inning in the Friday and Saturday games vs. Tennessee as Mizzou rallied past the Vols in both contests. With Mizzou clinging to a 3-2 lead on Sunday, Lavy then launched a two-run homer in the fifth off of the 420-foot sign on Mizzou's Devine Pavilion over the right field wall to put the game out of reach for Tennessee. But the big hits for Lavy are not just a fluke as he has been coming up with big hits all season long. Below are some notables on why Lavy deserves postseason awards for his performance this season.
- Lavy's 30 extra-base hits lead the SEC and he leads the SEC in slugging, doubles (17) and triples (seven)
- Lavy's 46 RBI are the most for a Mizzou player since current Big Leaguer Brett Nicholas had 64 in 2010
- His 17 doubles are the most since Big 12 Player of the Year Aaron Senne had 22 in 2010 (tops among power 5)
- His seven triples are the most by a Mizzou player since 1994 and lead the nation
- Lavy became the first Mizzou player since 2010 to drive in six runs, doing so last week vs. in-state rival No. 23 Missouri St.
- Lavy is third in the SEC in total bases and sixth in RBI
- He has had seven doubles, five triples and three homers (half of his XBHs) in SEC play, driving in 22 runs (fourth in SEC)
- Junior CF Jake Ring stole his SEC-leading 23rd base of the season Sunday vs. Tennessee. His 23 steals rank as the third-most in a single season at Mizzou and they are the most since Torre Tyson stole 37 in 1998. Ring is 20th nationally with his 23 steals.
- Mizzou will send freshman RHP Grant Macciocchi to the mound on Tuesday. He has made four appearances this season, including one start, and owns a 6.43 ERA in 7.0 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs while walking two and striking out two. In his only start this season, Macciocchi was lights out in 2.0 innings against SIU-Edwardsville, throwing up a pair of perfect frames while throwing 14 pitches (11 strikes). He missed the first 30 games of the season with a shoulder impingement.
- Illinois will send RHP Andrew Mamlic to the mound on Tuesday. He is 3-6 with a 4.22 ERA this season. He has tossed 49.0 innings, allowing 53 hits and 14 walks while hitting four batters. He has struck out 31 batters and only 23 of the 30 runs he has allowed have been earned. Batters are hitting .270 against him.
