vs. St. Louis | Kauffman Stadium - Kansas City, Mo. | Tuesday, March 29 // 6:30 p.m. | Stats |
- Mizzou Baseball will resume its series against in-state rival St. Louis this Tuesday (March 29) at Kauffman Stadium, home of Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and Tex Little and Trevor Coleman will have the call live on KTGR 103.1 FM/1580 AM.
- Mizzou is returning to Kauffman Stadium for the first time since 2014 after a one-year hiatus. In all, Mizzou is 1-4 in games played at the home of the World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. The four losses have all come to archirvial Kansas while the win came in 2014 against Wichita State in the College Baseball Hall of Fame Classic. Then senior 2B Dillon Everett provided one of the top moments of the 2014 season in that game, singling down the right field line on the first pitch he saw in the 10th inning with the bases loaded for the walk-off win.
- Mizzou is 4-6 all-time in games played at Major League Baseball stadiums in the state of Missouri. As mentioned, Mizzou is 1-4 in games played at Kauffman and 3-2 in games played at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mizzou has also played games at the Metrodome, the former home of the Minnesota Twins, in 2008. That year, Mizzou split a two-game series with the University of Minnesota as the Tigers are 5-7 in 12 games played at Major League stadiums since 2008. In game one against Minnesota, Aaron Senne, a native of Rochester, Minn., tied a school record with eight RBI, hit two home runs and had a career-high four hits in his return to his home state. With a large contingent of family and friends in attendance, Senne was 4-for-4 with eight runs driven in and two runs scored. In his first at-bat, Senne connected on a two-run homer to right center to give the Tigers the early 2-0 lead. He singled in each of his next two at-bats, driving in runs on both hits. Senne drove in his eighth run of the game when he was hit-by-a-pitch with the bases loaded in his second trip to the plate in the sixth inning. Senne's eight RBI matched Marcus Adler's eight RBI game against Evansville in 1986.
- Mizzou and St. Louis have played 93 games over the years with Mizzou holding 75-18 advantage in the all-time series. The two clubs have not met since 2009, a 19-6 win at Busch Stadium. This will be the 16th time that Mizzou will play St. Louis with head coach Tim Jamieson at the helm of the program. Mizzou is 14-1 all-time against its in-state foe since Jamieson took over the program.
- Mizzou will send RS sophomore RHP Ryan Lee to the mound on Tuesday. Lee is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 19.1 innings this season. He has not pitched since a midweek start against SEMO on March 16, a game which Mizzou won 13-6. Lee went 4.0 innings, allowing five hits, four runs (three earned) with three walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision. This will be his fifth start of the season and his second against an in-state foe.
- St. Louis will send RHP Luke Sommerfeld to the mound. He is 1-0 in eight appearances (no starts) and a 4.63 ERA in 11.2 IP.
- Through 26 games, Mizzou has walked 132 times this season (5.1 per game), a mark that ranks second in the SEC. Add in 28 hit-by-pitches, and Mizzou has received an SEC-best 160 free passes this season.
- Mizzou is coming off of arguably its toughest stretch of schedule this season, playing at No. 1 Florida and at home vs. No. 4 Vanderbilt in back-to-back weekends to open SEC play. Mizzou and Georgia are the only teams in the SEC scheduled to play Vanderbilt and Florida in back-to-back weekends this season.
- Knowing Mizzou walks a lot as a team, the Tigers have also done a great job of limiting walks, entering this week with just 73 walks in 26 games (2.8 per game). That mark ranks fourth in the SEC behind only Alabama and Florida (64) and Texas A&M (66).
