COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (13-5) dropped its series opener to Southeast Missouri (10-7), 7-2, Tuesday night despite multi-hit performances from Jake Ring (Ingleside, Ill.), Trey Harris (Powder Springs, Mo.) and Zach Lavy (Auxvasse, Mo.).
Freshman LHP Michael Plassmeyer (St. Louis, Mo.) started on the mound for Mizzou, for his fourth appearance of the season. Plassmeyer took the loss after throwing 4.2 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and walking just one batter.
Harris led the Mizzou offense with two hits and a RBI, marking this his fourth multi-hit game of the season. Lavy tallied two doubles on the night, bringing his total to eight on the season.
Ryan Rippee opened the scoring for Southeast Missouri in the second inning with a solo-shot over the right center field wall for his second homer of the season. Brian Lees followed up with single up the middle, taking an easy first base. Hunter Leeper stepped up to the plate and drove the ball to right center for a RBI single.
Lavy responded for Mizzou with a blast along the right field line, good for his seventh double of the season. Harris lined to center for a double, allowing Lavy to cross the plate for Harris' team-leading 16th RBI of the season.
Liam Carter (Highland Park, Ill.) entered the game to pitch for Mizzou in the fifth inning. Through 2.1 innings, Carter struck out three batters, walked two and allowed two earned runs on three hits.
Southeast Missouri continued to pound with two singles in the fifth and three singles in the sixth, knocking in three runs between the two innings. A pair of RBI doubles in the eighth by Leeper and Costello solidified the 7-1 lead for Southeast Missouri.
Lavy kicked off the ninth inning for Mizzou with another double down the right field line. A walk for Harris and a single to right field by Brian Sharp (Liberty, Mo.) loaded up the bases for sophomore Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.), who knocked a sacrifice fly into left field, driving a run across the plate for a final score of 7-2.

Head Coach Tim Jamieson
Opening statement…
"Too many strikeouts. We didn't pitch it very well. Defensively, we didn't have a lot of tough plays to make, but we didn't make any errors to look on the positive. But we just didn't hit very well and we didn't pitch it very well."
On whether it was tough adjusting to SEMO's starter…
"I thought he pitched well. I thought he did a good job mixing his pitches, but we have to put more balls in play than we did. That's the bottom line, if we put more balls in play, we'll probably have more hits and more baserunners obviously and then score a few more runs. But we can't give up 15 hits and give up seven runs either."
1B Zach Lavy
On SEMO's pitching…
"I think we were in between pitches – a little late on the fastball and out in front on the change-up. He did a good job of keeping us that way the whole game. I think he threw well over 100 pitches. We weren't able to get him out and get to their bullpen so, that's what we were doing when we were having success against teams. We just couldn't do that today. "
On what the team needs to do tomorrow to get their momentum back before SEC play…
"Hopefully we can come out and things are clicking. You know it doesn't take a lot of baseball to change everything around. Hopefully we'll have a good day at the plate and on the mound and then we have momentum going into Florida."
OF Trey Harris
On SEMO's pitching…
"I think he was just mixing up really well. He had us off balance like Zach said. We were caught in between pitches a lot. We were working really hard to try and make adjustments and sometimes they were clicking, sometimes we hit the ball hard right at some people. Maybe if we get a stolen bag here or there, the game could be different. Maybe we get a blooper here or there, the game could be different. We hit the ball hard and we had eight or nine hits. You can't be too mad, you just have to put them all together."
On what the team needs to do tomorrow…
"I think we just to need to have fun playing baseball. If we don't hit tomorrow, that means we are probably going to hit really well against Florida. It all depends on when it starts clicking again and when that happens it's going to be scary because we can put up runs really quick. I am just waiting for that time for everyone to start clicking again and we'll be fine. I'm not worried at all."
