COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Basketball has signed future student-athlete C.J. Roberts (North Richland Hills, Texas) to the program's 2017 recruiting class. A 6-0, 180-pound combo guard, Roberts possesses impressive shooting range and scoring ability. He led his Richland High School squad to a Texas 6A State Championship Playoffs appearance as a junior in 2015-16.
Averaging 22.5 points per game for head coach Richard Bacon's team last season, Roberts converted a blistering 52.0 percent of his field goal attempts as a junior. He scored 20 or more points on 13 different occasions and dropped 30 points three times, including a career-best 39 points against Permian Odessa in a 76-72 win on Dec. 10, 2015.
Roberts helped power Richland to a 23-9 record as a sophomore in 2014-15, scoring 14.8 points per game while dishing 2.4 assists per game. The Rebels advanced to the second round of the state playoffs with a 69-63 win over South Grand Prairie (Feb. 25, 2015), with Roberts scoring 23 points and grabbing five rebounds in the win.
Roberts was rated as the 96th-best prospect in the Class of 2017 by Rivals.com. Additionally, Texas Basketball Review ranked him as the seventh-best recruit in the state of Texas after his junior season. Roberts considered offers from Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech.
"When I saw Mizzou's campus for the first time, I was shocked," Roberts said. "I had no idea Mizzou was that big and beautiful. I ended up really, really liking it. Walking around campus, I saw so many chances for me to be involved. I hope Mizzou fans will think I'm a cool dude, a good person and someone they can rely on. I can't wait to get to Mizzou."
The son of Catrisa and Craig Roberts Sr., Robert's full name is Craig Roberts Jr., but he goes by C.J. The newly signed Tiger is interested in pursuing the sports management major at the University of Missouri.
