COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country will make its first appearance at the NCAA Championships as a team since 2004 on Saturday as the women's team is set to race at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's 6,000m race at the LaVern Championship Cross Country Championship Course is set to start to begin at 11 a.m. (ET)/10 a.m. (CT). FloTrack will provide a stream for the Championship.
The Tigers return to the national meet after a 12 year hiatus thanks to a first place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Nov. 11, its first regional championships since 2004. Four Tigers earned All-Midwest Regional honors, led by junior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa), who won the regional meet for her fourth meet victory of the season. Schweizer was joined on the All-Midwest Regional team by junior Jamie Kempfer (Festus, Mo.), senior Nicole Mello (Columbia, Mo.) and senior Teylar Adelsberger (O'Fallon, Mo.), who finished 5th, 20th and 21st, respectively.
At the SEC Championships on Oct. 28, the Tigers placed third, their highest finish at a conference meet since 2004 when Mizzou finished second at the Big 12 Championships. Schweizer captured the individual SEC Championship at that meet, becoming the first Tiger to win a conference meet since 1997.
For its most successful season since 2004, Mizzou has been well represented with postseason accolades. Schweizer was named both the SEC and NCAA Midwest Regional Women's Runner of the Year, while head coach Marc Burns was named the NCAA Midwest Regional Women's Coach of the Year.
