COLUMBIA, Mo. – Wednesday morning at #MIZCamp marked the second time fall practice took place at Memorial Stadium, as the Tigers used a light session to prepare for Thursday's scrimmage. A swarming secondary combined with a stout front seven highlighted a standout day for Mizzou's defense. Defensive coordinator Barry Odom's unit has developed a knack for causing plenty of turnovers during #MIZCamp and that proved to be the difference as the defense claimed Wednesday's practice. The offense excelled in controlled red zone situations, scoring multiple times on third and goal from inside the 10-yard line. Below are some highlights from the 13th practice of fall camp:
- During 7-on-7 drills, RB Morgan Steward ran a nifty cut back route to shed a linebacker and catch a pass across the middle from QB Eddie Printz.
- S Anthony Sherrils made a great read on a deep crossing pattern and stepped in front of the pass for an interception.
- QB Drew Lock lofted a pass in between the corner and the safety to WR Keyon Dilosa, who skied for the ball and came down with it for a 20-yard gain.
- OL Connor McGovern and DL Charles Harris continue to have epic battles during 1-on-1 trench drills. After McGovern walled up Harris, Harris returned the favor on the next snap with a sweet spin move around McGovern before sacking the dummy QB.
- On the first play of the 11-on-11 session, DL Terry Beckner, Jr. penetrated the backfield and stuffed the ballcarrier for a tackle-for-loss.
- During 11-on-11, QB Maty Mauk shifted in the pocket and surveyed his options before tossing a neat shovel pass to a wide-open RB Ish Witter, who scampered for a 12-yard gain.
- Mauk rifled a throw into a tight space, connecting with a streaking Nate Brown in traffic for 17 yards.
- LB Joey Burkett flashed incredible reaction skills, hauling in a tipped pass near the turf and returning it 15 yards.
- A few plays later, CB Aarion Penton elevated for an interception near the sideline, stayed in bounds and sprinted to the end zone for a pick-six.
- On a third and goal from the 5-yard line, WR Wesley Leftwich dived for a tipped ball and squeezed it for a touchdown.
- RB Marquise Doherty caught a delayed screen pass at the 9-yard line and shifted his way to the end zone for a score.
- Freshman DE Nate Howard burst into the backfield and forced a sack fumble on the final drive.
