COLUMBIA, Mo. – On Thursday morning, Mizzou Tennis added two top-50 recruits as the coaching staff announced the singings of Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Tate Schroeder (Denver, Colo.). After signing their National Letters of Intent, Middlebrooks and Schroeder will continue their academic and athletic career at Mizzou, beginning the fall semester of 2016-17. Both recruits received a five-star ranking by the recruiting website, TennisRecruiting.net.
"I am thrilled to announce the signings of Mackenzy Middlebrooks and Tate Schroeder to the Mizzou Tennis team," head coach Sasha Schmid said. "Mackenzy and Tate are wonderful young women who will be terrific assets to Mizzou both on and off the court. They are going to be excellent teammates and contribute to the continued growth and improvement of our program."
Mackenzy Middlebrooks // Blackman Tennis Academy // Fort Lauderdale, Florida
With a recent title in the Florida State Doubles Tournament in September and a United States Tennis Association (UTSA) Section Doubles title in the fall of 2014, Mackenzy Middlebrooks will bring a championship mentality to Mizzou Tennis. Middlebrooks is a member of the national honors society and ranked as the No. 50 tennis recruit among seniors by TennisRecruiting.net.
Schmid on Middlebrooks: "Early on in the recruiting process I felt a strong connection to Mackenzy. I was immediately impressed with her athleticism and tennis game, and I admired her sportsmanship and the way she conducts herself on and off the court. Mackenzy is going to soar in college tennis and contribute to our team both in singles and doubles. As a 6-1 lefty, she has a big game and I am looking forward to seeing Mackenzy develop her game over the course of the next four years at Mizzou."
Tate Schroeder // IMG Academy // Denver, Colorado
Before completing her final season of high school tennis, Tate Schroder brings an impressive résumé to Columbia when she joins Mizzou Tennis. In Colorado, Schroeder won back-to-back 5A Regional Championships (2013 & 2014), as well as earning the 2014 5A State Championship. A high school All-American, Schroeder received 2014-15 Sportswoman of the Year in Colorado. TennisRecruiting.net ranked Schroeder as the No. 46 tennis recruit among seniors.
Schmid on Schroeder: "Tate is a vibrant young woman who is dedicated to pushing herself to be the best on the tennis court and in the classroom. Tate's strong tennis game will make an immediate impact on our singles and doubles lineup, but most of all Tate's energy and enthusiasm for hard work will positively contribute to our team. Tate has a great spirit for challenge and is very excited to play SEC tennis and compete against the best in college tennis."
