Green Tennis Center at Mizzou
In the Spring of 2002, the the Green Tennis Center opened providing the MU women's tennis team with a true home court, and the people of Colulmbia a new state-of-the art tennis facility.
"Words cannot describe the impact the Green Tennis Center at Mizzou will have on our program over the next several years," MU coach Blake Starkey said. "We will be able to recruit better. We will be able to train better. We will be able to showcase our players to spectators better. For the first time ever, our matches can become events.
"Our general membership will be able to follow and cheer for our players. And our players, having a quality home, will have a pride in the Mizzou program that has never been there before. This is special. The players know it. The coaches and administrators know it. And the community of Columbia knows it. "
Membership to the Green Tennis Center at Mizzou includes the opportunity for private instruction and lessons from pros, regular tennis clinics, videotape analysis of sessions, group clinics and participation in USTA Leagues and Club tournaments.
The unique facility is a metal frame and fabric structure. It will have the flexibility of indoor and outdoor play as it willhave adjustable sides that will allow the facility to be opened in warm weather, and enclosed and heated during winter months.
Initially, there are four courts, however, the ability exists to expand to eight at a later stage. The facility will also boast spectator seating, locker rooms, bathrooms, changing rooms, video equipment, a small pro shop, as well as office space.
The new center is named after the father of Jerry Green, who donated $500,000 for the construction of the facility.
Green is the owner of WHB 810 Radio in Kansas City. His father attended MU and was a member of the Tiger tennis team in the 1920s.
