Nov. 28, 2011
COLUMBIA, Mo. - After being selected to its second straight NCAA Tournament and its 10th in the last 12 seasons, the Mizzou volleyball team saw four of its student-athletes land on All-Big 12 Postseason Teams, announced by the league office on Monday (Nov. 28).
Sophomore outside hitter Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.) highlighted the selections as she was named to the All-Big 12 first team while sophomore setter Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors for the second year in a row. Both Whitney Little (Keller, Texas) and Emily Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) landed on the All-Big 12 freshman team as well.
Henning lands on the All-Big 12 first team for the first time in her career after being named to the All-Big 12 freshman team a season ago. She was one of the league's top attackers all season long as she led the Big 12 in kills per set (4.65) and points per set (5.16) in league matches while ranking second overall in all matches this season. She is the first Tiger ever to lead the Big 12 in both kills per set and points per set in a single season. She posted 507 on the season as she is just the third Tiger to eclipse 500 kills in a single season and she sits just 15 kills shy of matching the single season school record for kills (522). Currently, Henning is third on the Mizzou single-season kills list, trailing Yvette Buhlig (515) and Na Yang (522). She is also third on the Mizzou single season points list with 572.0 this year, trailing only Yang (576.0) and Buhlig (626.0). She is hitting .253 on the season as well.
Henning also owns the Big 12's top four single-match point performances this season and the top two kill performances as few teams have been able to slow her this season. In addition to her arm, the Tiger sophomore played all six rotations this season and became one of the league's top servers with 32 aces while pitching in 255 digs and 55 blocks. She posted six double-doubles on the year as well.
For Kreklow, 2011 marks the second consecutive year that she has landed on the All-Big 12 honorable mention team. She finished the season averaging 10.74 assists per set and led the Big 12 with 1,321 total assists in 2011. She led the team with 14 double-doubles on the season and broke the school record for digs by a setter in the rally scoring era (290). She also led the team with 33 service aces and posted 81 total blocks on the season, ranking third on the team. Not only that, but she guided a Mizzou offense that hit .240 on the season and quarterbacked the Tigers to a second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Little and Wilson were honored by the Big 12 for the first time in their careers, being named to the All-Big 12 freshman team. Wilson, who was twice named Big 12 Freshman of the Week during the regular season, finished 2011 with 316 kills as she became the first Tiger freshman to post more than 300 kills in a season since 2006. Wilson also hit .253 on the season while pitching in 64 total blocks and 46 digs in her first season as a Tiger.
Little has been the team's top blocker all season long as she has posted 133 on the season, a Mizzou freshman record and just five off of the all-time single-season record at Mizzou (138 by Christi Myers in 2000). Her 133 currently rank her third on that list. In addition to her blocking, Little also posted 173 kills on .279 hitting with 82 digs and 29 aces.
Mizzou will play No. 17 Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday (Dec. 2) at 5 p.m. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MU_Volleyball.
