Molly Kreklow earned All-SEC honors in the preseason for the second straight season.
Aug. 9, 2013
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou volleyball seniors Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) were named to the nine-member Preseason All-SEC Team for the second year in a row as the league announced Friday morning (Aug. 9). Mizzou joined league-favorite Florida as one of the only two teams in the SEC to place at least two players on the nine-member team.
"I really can't say enough about what Molly and Lisa have meant to this program over the last three seasons and I am extremely excited for them to be honored by the league's coaches again," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "This being their senior season, I think the rest of the team and the entire staff is working extra hard to send those two out with a memorable season. Preseason awards are great, but I think both of them would trade those honors for a great season and another trip back to the postseason."
Henning and Kreklow were each honored as Preseason All-SEC picks as juniors in 2012 while Henning finished the season as a unanimous pick to the All-SEC First Team while Kreklow was an All-SEC Second Team honoree. Henning, a two-time AVCA Third Team All-American and the SEC's active kills leader with 1,295 in her career, was one of four outside hitters selected to the Preseason All-SEC Team. If Henning puts up the numbers that she did over the last two seasons, she will rank first in program history in career kills and points. Henning is the school record holder for kills in a single season and is the only Tiger to ever post 500 kills in back-to-back seasons. The honor is her third major SEC award after earning All-SEC Preseason and All-SEC First Team honors in the postseason last year.
"I'm excited, and to share a spot on the team with Molly means a lot to me as well," Henning said. "This is the last go-around for us so we really want to show everyone what Mizzou volleyball is all about. To be recognized as one of the top nine players in a league like the SEC is great, but it's all about what we can accomplish as a team this season - that's what is most important to me."
Kreklow, regarded as one of the best setters in the nation, was one of two setters honored on the Preseason All-SEC Team. She was a Second Team All-SEC selection a season ago and was twice named to the Big 12 Honorable Mention Team (2010, 2011). She was the 2010 AVCA Central Region Freshman of the Year and has guided Mizzou to its second-best three-year hitting percentage in program history.
"It is humbling for me to be named to the Preseason All-SEC team, especially considering how many great setters there are in the league," Kreklow said. "There are so many good setters returning to SEC teams this season and for the coaches to recognize me is exciting. Lisa and I are really excited for our senior seasons and we are going to do everything that we can to get this team back to the NCAA Tournament."
Henning and Kreklow began their Mizzou careers in the 2010 season as the cornerstones of what was the nation's No. 14 recruiting class that year according to PrepVolleyball.com. They have accounted for 62 wins, four NCAA Tournament matches, an NCAA Sweet 16 and they have a chance to become one of the top three winningest classes in program history. They have a pair of 20-win seasons on their résumé and have combined for seven major All-Conference Teams selections, a pair of All-America honors, three AVCA All-Region honors, nine weekly conference honors and one AVCA National Player of the Week award.
Henning, Kreklow and the rest of the Tigers will open play with the annual Black & Gold scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Hearnes Center. Admission to the match is free. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MizzouVB.
