COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou volleyball program landed a heralded recruit this week as Taylor Simpson, a 6-3 outside hitter from Colorado Springs, has committed to play with the Tigers during the 2012 season. Simpson was the No. 9 recruit nationally in 2010 according to PrepVolleyball.com, marking the top prospect ever to commit to play at Mizzou. She is eligible to play immediately, beginning in the fall of 2012.

Simpson most recently played volleyball at the University of Nebraska during the 2011 season as she played in 34 sets in 12 matches, tallying 13 kills and nine blocks. Simpson transferred from Nebraska to Florida State before committing to Mizzou last week.

"We're very excited to have Taylor join us here at Mizzou," Mizzou head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "She has the physical tools and skill set to have an immediate impact on our team and program. Taylor is a great player and an even better person and we couldn't be happier with her decision to become a Mizzou Tiger."

Coming out of Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, Simpson earned plenty of accolades nationally. After being ranked No. 9 by PrepVolleyball.com, Simpson was selected as an Under Armour All-American in 2010 and was an ESPN RISE Volleyball All-America honorable mention selection. On top of that, Simpson was the Colorado high School Class 5A Player of the Year in 2009 and was a member of the 2010 US Youth Olympic Team that finished second in Singapore, leading the team in points during that tournament. She had 11 kills, six blocks and an ace in the final match of that tournament as well. In 30 matches during her senior year of high school, Simpson tallied 471 kills, 60 blocks, 312 digs and 21 aces, leading her team to a 22-8 overall record.
