LINCOLN, Neb. - The Mizzou volleyball team dropped to 13-8 and 5-6 in Big 12 play after losing a tough match to No. 3 Nebraska on Saturday (Oct. 23) at the Nebraska Coliseum. Senior outside hitter Paola Ampudia (Cali, Colombia) led Mizzou with 10 kills, her 10th straight match with double-digit kills, but it was not enough for the Tigers. Nebraska hit .392 in the match while limiting Mizzou to just .152 hitting. The loss is the Tigers first in the last three Big 12 contests.
Mizzou came out slow in the first set and allowed Nebraska to open a huge lead. In fact, Nebraska hit .433 in the first while limiting the Tigers to .033 hitting as Mizzou posted just eight kills in the frame. Nebraska's Hannah Werth had six kills in the first on .857 hitting to lead Nebraska to a 25-13 set win in the first.
The Tigers rebounded and played much better in the second as they hit .290 as a team and posted 15 kills, but fell in the set, 25-22. Ampudia and Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) combined for eight of those 15 kills as they both tallied four in the set while Brittney Brimmage (East St. Louis, Ill.) tallied three kills on three swings without an error. Nebraska native Catie Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) also posted two kills on just four swings in the set.
The Tigers fell behind, 6-0, in the third set and could never regain form after that as it dropped the final frame, 25-16. Overall, Klein finished the match with seven kills and three digs while Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.) pitched in five kills and two blocks for the Tigers. Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, In.) led the team with 12 digs.
