Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri volleyball team welcomed Head Coach Susan Kreklow into the Mizzou volleyball fold with a gift this weekend. That gift was a 3-0 start and the championship trophy at the Oral Roberts adidas Hilton Classic in Tulsa, Okla.

After defeating Arkansas Little-Rock earlier in the day, the Tigers picked up an 11-15, 15-5, 15-9, 15-5 win on Saturday night defeating ORU to clinch the title.

Junior Kristen Johnson led the charge for the Tigers Saturday night collecting 16 kills and hitting .406. and was named the MVP of the tournament. Senior Heather Gerber, who recorded 47 assists in the match, and sophomore Christi Myers, who had 10 kills against ORU were named to the all-tournament team as

The Tigers recorded a solid .413 hitting percentage on the night and also had eighty digs. Sophomore Lisa Morris continued her solid early-season play knocking down 15 kills and picking up 18 digs for her first double-double of the season. Senior Annette Luyten, despite battling a nagging ankle injury, had her best game of the season collecting six kills, 12 digs, and six blocks in the win.

The 3-0 start is the best start by a Tiger team since 1998 when that squad opened 4-0 before finishing the year at 14-19. Up next for MU will be the Kangaroos of the University of Missouri at Kansas City on Wed., Sept. 6 in Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to host the Lathrop & Gage Tiger Invitational on Sept. 8-9.
