COLUMBIA, MO. - The University of Missouri men and women's track and field teams had a fantastic day at Day 2 of the Tom Botts Invitational at Walton Stadium today. Eight Tigers won events today and fifteen set NCAA Regional qualifying marks. Tiger senior co=captain Russ Bell was named Male Athlete of the Meet and Ttameisha King of Notre Dame was named female Athlete of the Meet.

On the men's side 10 Tiger athletes qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships to be held in Columbus, Ohio in late May. On the track senior Timothy Dunne and sophomore Neville Miller both qualified in the 800 meters. Dunne finished second running in a time of 1:49.67 and Miller finished third in a time of 1:50.91. Ryan Hampton and Rem Moll finished 1-2 in the 1500 meters and qualified for the regionals. Hampton ran a 3:49.56 and Moll ran a 3:49.60. In the high jump sophomore Jesse had a season-best jump of 7 feet, 2.5 inches and finshed first in the evnt. Junior Jason Edmonds finished second jumping 6 feet, 11 inches. Tiger senior and 2-time Tom Botts Invitational Male Athlete of the Meet Russ Bell qualified in the shot put and discus. Bell threw 60 feet, 11.25 inches in the shot and 169 feet, 3 inches in the discus. Senior co-captain Christian Cantwell threw 168-4 in the discus to qualify for the championships. Iin the men's javelin senior co-captain Knut Sommerfeldt threw 214 feet, 2 inches and teammate All-American Gary File threw 205-11 to qualify.

 

 

On the women's side five Tigers qualified for the NCAA Regionals. Sophomore Jenny Bybee jumped 5 feet, 8.75 inches and freshman Alicia Cannady jumped 5-7 to qualify in the high jump. Junior Jennifer Bennett set a new meet record en route to qualifying in the pole vault with a leap of 12 feet, 11.75 inches. In the shot put two Ttigers qualified. Janae Strickland finished first by throwing 48 feet, 5.5 inches and sophomore Lindsay Markworth finished second throwing 45 feet, 7.25 inches.

The Tiger track and field team is in action next week at the Kansas Relays.
