COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri track and field team continued its impressive start to the 2001 season at the Tiger Invitational here Friday evening.

Senior Michelle Moran got things rolling for the 23rd-ranked Tiger women early in the day by winning the women's pentathlon with 3,678 points. Seniors Sunny Gilbert (2:49.83) and Ashley Wysong (2:52.20) claimed the top two spots in the 1000m run. Another senior, Katie Meyer, turned in a strong performance in the 3000-meter run and took first in a time of 9:57.80. Junior Ann Marie Brooks also ran well winning the mile run in a time of 4:50.10. Two-sport star sophomore Christi Myers won the high jump with a 5-8 mark.

On the men's side of things and for the second week in a row, sophomore Christian Cantwell threw an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw (63-4). Senior Jay Meystedt's 6-8 high jump was good enough to give him the win, while fellow seniors Phil Councilor (4:11.17) and Ochuko Ekpere (23-7) set personal bests in the mile and the long jump respectively.

The Tigers fight for the right to bring home "The Jug" in the 12th Annual MU-KU-KSU Triangular Jan. 26.
