Derrick Peterson enters his second year on the Missouri Track & Field staff.
The former NCAA champion and All-American will assist the coaches with middle distance runners.
Peterson is the American collegiate record holder in the indoor 800m. He was an eight-time Big 12 champion
in the 800m, a six-time All-American, 15-time All-Big 12 and three-time Drake Relays champion. In 2000, he
qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 800m.
Peterson holds the MU school records in both the indoor 800m (1:45.88) and outdoor 800m (1:45.18). He also
anchored the two-time Drake Relays 4x800m championship relay team.
At the World University Games, Peterson has won a gold medal as a member of the 1600m relay team and
won both silver (2001) and bronze (1999) medals in the 800m. He made the U.S. World Championship team
in 2001 in the 800m after finishing second at the World Championship Trials.
Peterson is currently a professional track runner and sponsored by Adidas and was ranked No. 2 (800m) in
the United States in 2001 by Track & Field News. He is majoring in hotel and restaurant management, resides
in Columbia and is single.
