Columbia, Mo. - Jamie Mera (Tampa, Florida) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis for the Missouri Tigers beginning next year. Mera is listed #49 nationally, and is a five-star recruit.

"We are excited about the start of this year's recruiting class," Starkey said. "Every year you try to level up and just get better. We clearly did that with last year's (recruiting) class, and we've done it again with the addition of Jamie Mera. Jamie is a great athlete with good weapons, and she's fast and hits a strong ball from the baseline. But the thing that stood out most about her game was her consistency and her fight. Her best tennis is in front of her and the fans that follow our team are going to enjoy watching this one fight the next several years."

In addition to her success on the court, Mera will add to the strong academic tradition of the Tiger tennis team.

"Jamie has strong character, and is a great fit for us academically as she is an outstanding student," said Starkey. "She'll be a great ambassador for Mizzou and for our program."

Mera is currently No. 2 in her class of over 500 at Tampa's Chamberlain High School. She is a National Honor Society member, and a member of Beta (a national academic honors group). She is president of her school's Spanish National Honor Society, and involved with MU Alpha Theta (a national math club). She is also involved in several community service projects.

"I just fell in love with Mizzou", said Mera. "Journalism is amazing and clearly played a big part, but I was stunned by just how nice everything was. I loved the girls on the team, and just knew I fit in with them. It was an easy decision, and I can't wait to get started."

Mera selected Mizzou over Colorado, Minnesota, Florida State, Furman, and Syracuse.
