Mizzou Tennis Signs Cassidy Spearman

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou tennis team has signed Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Nigel, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Tigers, Head Coach Sasha Schmid announced on Wednesday. Spearman will join the Missouri program starting the 2013-14 season.

A native of Laguna Nigel, Calif., Spearman is a four-time All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) recipient for Dana Hills High School, where she helped the squad win the CIF team title in 2011. She has also shown outstanding results in doubles action, as she advanced to the third round of the Girls' 18 2012 USTA National Hard Court Championships this past summer in San Diego and reached the finals or semifinals in the state doubles tournament the past three years. Off the court, she is a three-time Scholar Athlete at Dana Hills and received the USTA Southern California Section Sportsmanship Award in 2009.

She is the daughter of Mark and Dorene Spearman. Her father was an All-American tennis player at Cal Lutheran and played on the ATP tour, where he had significant success as a doubles player.

"Cassidy is a tremendous athlete with great fundamentals who is going to only grow and improve in college," Schmid said. "She is very motivated to reach her potential and we are thrilled as coaches to work with a player of her attitude and work ethic. Cassidy has an outstanding personalty and is going to be a tremendous team member for Mizzou."
