Columbia, Mo. - The Tigers hosted their first home match of the season against the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lady Lions and improved to 2-2 overall. After snatching the 7-0 win, the Tigers are now undefeated at home this season.
"It was great to play at home on our own courts," said Head Coach Sasha Schmid. "I really appreciate the large crowd and support."
For the second match in a row, Missouri took home the doubles point. Schmid switched up the doubles lineup from the match against Fresno State but continued to have positive results. On court 3, Maria Christensen (Hellerup, Denmark) and Annemijn Koenen (St. Charles, Ill.) defeated their opponents 8-0, while seniors Nina Pantic (Lake Worth, Fla.) and Jamie Mera (Tampa, Fla.) paired up to clench an 8-0 win to secure the doubles point for the Tigers. Rachel Stuhlmann (St. Louis, Mo.) and Ashleigh Chiaf (Edmond, Okla.) rounded up doubles play and won 8-3.
Singles play turned out to be equally as successful for Missouri. Stuhlmann finished first on court 3 against Masa Podunavac 6-0, 6-1. On court 1, Pantic was able to defeat Monica Pieratt in two sets (6-1, 6-0) and Christensen finished soon after her on court 2 versus Abby Whittemore (6-2, 6-0) to seize the Tiger win. Alex Clark (London, England) battled it out on court 4 against Amy Belanger. Clark still finished in two sets (6-2, 6-2). Both Mera and Chiaf finished singles play with fast wins. Mera defeated Whitney Hobson 6-0, 6-1 while Chiaf won in two quick sets (6-0 6-0), allowing no points from Kristen Cox.
"The team played well today. Now we need a good week of practice to prepare for our match versus Wichita State on Saturday," Schmid said.
No.72 Missouri will head back on the road to Wichita, Ks. to face Wichita State on Sat., Feb. 11th at 4 p.m.
