Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Tennis opens its home campaign this weekend when it takes on a pair of in-state foes, Southeast Missouri State and UMKC on Sunday at the Green Tennis Center.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. Sunday morning as the Tigers face SEMO.Missouri and UMKC then square off later that afternoon at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and see their Tigers at home for the first time this season, which includes viewing the nationally-ranked doubles team of Mallory Weber and Kaitlyn Ritchie.
Weber and Ritchie are ranked #51 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and performed well last weekend at the Memphis Winter Invitational.
Missouri is coming off a solid start to the new season under interim head coach Steven Stuckenschneider. The Tigers were strong at the Memphis Winter Invite and Jamie Mera paced Missouri with a pair of singles wins. Mera, a junior from Tampa, Fla., toppled Brigham Young University’s Desiree Tran, 6-3, 6-2, and then took out Memphis’ Andrea Arques-Garcia in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Weber and Rachel Stuhlmann each earned singles victories as well. The senior Weber knocked off BYU’s Elle Carney in straight sets, while Stuhlmann disposed of Memphis’ Kelly Gray 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
