NORMAN, Okla. - The Mizzou tennis team concluded play at the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championship on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Norman, Okla. Seven different Tigers competed in the event.

Missouri opened play on Thursday, Oct. 17 with three Tigers competing in qualifying singles. Sophomore Madison Rhyner won her two matches on the day, defeating Taylor Monken of Saint Louis (6-0, 6-2) and Minnesota's Kendall Heitzner (6-1, 6-4) to advance to the main draw. Freshmen Tracy Dong and Cassidy Spearman each went 1-1 on the day, losing their opening match but rebounding to post a win in the consolation bracket.

Rhyner joined seniors Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Rachel Stuhlmann and sophomore Kelli Hine in Saturday morning's main draw singles. Gaytan-Leach, Stuhlmann and Hine all won their opening matches but fell in the second round. Gaytan-Leach defeated Nebraska's Lisa Andersson, 6-4, 6-3, Stuhlmann beat Florencia Magni of South Dakota State, 6-4, 6-3, and Hine posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Renata Kurikova of Tulsa. Rhyner lost her first match but recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over SIUE's Monique Krutak in the main draw consolation bracket.



The Tigers also competed in doubles action at the ITA Central Regional Championships. The duo of junior Alex Clark and Rhyner defeated Arkansas State's Julie Guaguery and Biljana Miloshevska, 8-3, while the team of Hine and Spearman posted an 8-6 win over Central Arkansas' Simona Horsikyan and Kelsey Williams. Both Tiger doubles teams suffered losses in their second round match.

Mizzou returns to the court Nov. 1-3 for the Midwest Blast in Champaign, Ill.
