TULSA, Okla. - Mizzou tennis junior Cierra Gaytan-Leach advanced to the quarterfinals in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship, hosted by Tulsa, on Saturday. She will face Arkansas' Yang Pang on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Gaytan-Leach defeated Oklahoma's Whitney Richie 6-3, 7-5 in the round of 16 on Saturday to advance. Richie, ranked 60th in the country, was the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The junior now has a 6-2 record in the fall season and a perfect 3-0 at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship.
Two Tiger doubles teams were also in action on Saturday. Gaytan-Leach and sophomore Elisha Gabb suffered an 8-3 loss to Oklahoma State's C.C. Sardinia and Meghan Blevins, while junior Rachel Stuhlmann and freshman Madison Rhyner lost to Tulsa's Sam Vickers and Isaura Enrique, 8-2.
