The University of Missouri women's tennis team completed the second day of action at the Mizzou "Ace For A Cure" tournament, winning eight of ten matches.

The Tigers won seven of their eight singles matches played on Saturday. In Pink, Black and Gold bracket one, Mallory Weber defeated Texas Tech's Caroline Stark 6-2, 7-5. She will now face her teammate, Jamie Mera, who topped Natalie Leitch of Texas Tech 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.

"We're actually going to play that. Usually I'd break that up. In a weird way, I think they both want to play it, so we're going to," said Head Coach Blake Starkey. 

In the bracket two semifinals, senior Sofia Ayala fell to Louisville's Mandy Brown, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In singles bracket four, two Tigers once again advanced to play each other in the finals tomorrow, however it will be split up so the girls face some new competition. Sophomore Danielle Day topped Drake's Earlyn Lauer 6-1, 6-2, while junior Maureen Modesto defeated Gabi Duncan of Louisville 6-4, 6-4.

Finishing the day in Pink, Black and Gold bracket three, senior Kristen Bleakley split her first two sets against Louisville's Stefanie Villajuan, 5-7, 7-6. Bleakley went on to win the match in the third set, 6-4.

"Bleakley was a lot of fun to watch. She was down 3-0 in the second set and just kept fighting and fighting. I just think she battled really hard the whole way through. It was nice to see her get that fired up at the end of that match," said Starkey.

In doubles play, the duo of Ayala and Kaitlyn Ritchie fell to Louisville's Caroline Starck and Kerryn Potgeiter 8-5 in the Pink, Black and Gold bracket two title match. Bleakley and freshman Andrea Lewis will play Louisville's Sarah Miller and Stefanie Villajuan on Sunday for the bracket three title.

As a team, we played much better today. We have a little bit of work to do in our doubles, that was a little atypical for us. We're usually much stronger than we've seen here this weekend.  All in all, I'm pretty pleased about the day," said Starkey.
 
Play will resume at 10:00 a.m. Sunday at the Green Tennis Center; with one round of singles, and the third bracket doubles final.
