Tigers Win Five Titles at Mizzou Invite

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mizzou women's tennis team claimed two doubles and three singles titles on the final day of the Mizzou Invite on Sunday at The Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Missouri's doubles teams of senior Rachel Stuhlmann and freshman Tracy Dong, at No. 3 action, and junior Alex Clark and sophomore Madison Rhyner, at No. 4, picked up flight titles over the three-day event. In singles play, three Tigers took home titles from the weekend: sophomore Kelli Hine (No. 4 singles), Clark (No. 5 singles) and freshman Cassidy Spearman (No. 6 singles).

The Tigers' victorious doubles teams closed the weekend with wins in Mizzou's match against Oklahoma State. Dong and Stuhlmann posted an 8-3 victory over Mariah Burke and Morgan McCray. Clark and Rhyner ended the event with an 8-5 win over Hannah Sulz and Izabella Zgierska.

In Sunday singles play, Mizzou won six of eight matches against Nebraska to conclude the Invite. At No. 2 action, senior Cierra Gaytan-Leach defeated Brittany Brewster, 6-0, 6-3. Stuhlmann posted an identical 6-0, 6-3 win over Katerina Matysova at No. 3 singles. Playing at No. 4 on Sunday, Clark notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lisa Andersson.

Also winners on the day were junior Elisha Gabb, Spearman and Rhyner. At No. 5, Gabb had a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sulz and Spearman earned a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Lauren Wagner at No. 6. Rhyner earned win, 3-2, after her opponent, Zgierska, was forced to retire due to injury.



Mizzou is next in action at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 1-2 in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Cierra Gaytan-Leach will compete in qualifying singles action, while she and Gabb with play in qualifying doubles competition.
