COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou tennis team claimed its first Southeastern Conference win of the season Friday as the Tigers notched a 4-2 win over Mississippi State at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. With the win, Mizzou improved to 7-19 overall and 1-11 in SEC action, while the Bulldogs fell to 9-13 and 1-11.

The Tigers won four singles matches to clinch the win over the Bulldogs. With the home squad trailing 1-0 after doubles, freshman Cassidy Spearman knotted the score at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rosalinda Calderon at No. 6 singles.

Victories at No. 2 and No. 1 singles put the Tigers ahead 3-1 with three matches still in doubt. At No. 2, sophomore Kelli Hine easily defeated Alexandra Perper, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, senior Cierra Gaytan-Leach recorded her fourth win over a ranked foe of the season as she posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 66 Georgiana Patrasc.

Mississippi State cut Mizzou's lead to 3-2 after Timea Guibe bested senior Rachel Stuhlmann, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 action.

Junior Alex Clark secured Missouri's win as she earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Naomi Train at No. 5 singles. Clark started the match slow, as she trailed Train 4-0 in the first set, but stormed back to earn the victory.

The Bulldogs took the doubles point after wins at No. 1 and No. 2 competition. Mizzou looked strong early with an 8-0 win by Hine and Spearman over Petra Ferancova and Patrasc at No. 3 doubles. Mississippi State's No. 56 team of Perper and Tran then recorded an 8-7 (4) win over Gaytan-Leach and Stuhlmann at No. 1 action. The point came down to No. 2, where sophomore Madison Rhyner and Clark fell to Roseline Dion and Guibe, 8-6.

Missouri closes out the regular season with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 13. The Tigers host Ole Miss at Noon before a 5 p.m. match against UMKC.
