Columbia, Mo. –The University of Missouri tennis team (7-7, 3-3 Big 12) suffered it's third loss in Big 12 play this season, seventh overall, on Sunday to the Baylor Bears. Baylor (12-4, 4-0 Big 12) picked up the doubles point and quickly snagged singles victories to remain undefeated against conference competition. Play began at noon on March 29 and featured a round of doubles followed by a round of singles play.
Baylor jumped out to an early lead in each of the doubles matches. Though Missouri fought back at all three spots to bring matches within two games the Bears prevailed and took each of the doubles matches and the doubles point.
In singles action Jessica Giuggioli and Danielle Day both took their girls took a tie-breaking set. Giuggioli battled to return strong services by Taylor Ormond but fell in the tie-breaker. In the final match of the day freshman Day and Baylor's Kasia Siwosz battled back-and-forth before Siwosz claimed the tie-breaker and the match.
"We didn't compete at the level we needed to today if we wanted to win," said coach Blake Starkey. "This is the best team we've faced all season and I have nothing but great respect for Baylor and their program. They are one of the best in the country."
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday (April 3) and Sunday (April 5) as they travel south for a pair of match-ups against conference opponents, Texas A&M and then Texas.
