No. 44 Oklahoma Defeats No. 71 Mizzou, 6-1

NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 71 Mizzou tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at No. 44 Oklahoma on Sunday, March 25 in Norman, Okla. The loss dropped Missouri's record to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in Big 12 action, while the Sooners improved to 9-8 and 4-1.

The Tigers stayed close at No. 2 and 3 doubles but could not pull out the victories, as Oklahoma swept all three doubles matches. The team of Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie, who are ranked 44th nationally, defeated seniors Nina Pantic and Jamie Mera, 8-3. Mia Lancaster and Abbi Melrose earned a 8-6 win over junior Maria Christensen and sophomore Rachel Stuhlmann at No. 2 and freshman Ashleigh Chiaf and Alex Clark fell to Nicole Long and Whitney Wofford, 8-6, at No. 3.

Mera secured Mizzou's lone singles win at No. 4 action as she defeated Abbi Melrose 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 1 singles, Ritchie defeated Pantic 6-2, 6-1, while Stuhlmann fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 action to Huet and Lancaster claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Christensen at No. 3.

The Sooners also got singles victories at No. 5, where Long earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Clark and at No. 6, as Wofford outdueled Chiaf, 6-0, 6-0.

Mizzou travels to Boca Raton, Fla., on Wednesday, March 28, when the Tigers take on Brown University at 10 a.m.
