Mizzou Records 7-0 Sweep Over Stephen F. Austin

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 55 Mizzou tennis program earned its fourth straight victory with a 7-0 sweep over Stephen F. Austin Saturday afternoon at the Green Tennis Center. With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-1 on the season, while the Lady Jacks fell to 2-6.

Missouri earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 action. The tandem of senior Maria Christensen and junior Rachel Stuhlmann opened the match with an 8-1 defeat of Kateryna Bugayenko and Julia Lorca at No. 2. Mizzou's top team of junior Cierra Gaytan-Leach and sophomore Elisha Gabb ousted Melena Gordo and Valeria Terentyeva, 8-4, to claim to doubles point for the Tigers.

A quick 6-1, 6-2 win for Gabb over Margot de Haan at No. 3 singles gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in singles action. Stuhlmann gave Mizzou a 3-0 edge when she dispatched Lorca, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.

Mizzou clinched the victory when Christensen posted a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Bugayenko at No. 4 singles.

In the tightest match of the day, Gaytan-Leach dropped the second set but emerged victorious over Gordo at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). At No. 5, sophomore Alex Clark posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Terentyeva.

Freshman Madison Rhyner closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Laura Servise at No. 6 action.

The Tigers next hit the court on Friday, March 1 when the squad hosts No. 4 Florida at 5 p.m. to open Southeastern Conference action.
