COLUMBIA, Mo. -The Mizzou tennis team secured a 7-0 sweep of UMKC in the home opener Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Green Tennis Center. The Tigers improved to 5-1 in dual matches this spring, while the `Roos fell to 2-6.

Missouri went up 1-0 when the team claimed took two-of-three doubles matches. The No. 46 ranked team of junior Cierra Gaytan-Leach and sophomore Elisha Gabb easily dispatched Laura Bouet and Eva Dalvai, 8-2, at No. 1 action. UMKC responded with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 as Amelie Amsallem and Suzan Lisenby defeated sophomore Alex Clark and freshman Madison Rhyner. The doubles point came down to a hard-fought match at No. 2 but the Tiger duo of senior Maria Christensen and junior Rachel Stuhlmann prevailed over Dimitra Stavrianakou and Gabby Pintos, 8-7 (7-5).

In singles play, Gabb earned a quick 6-2, 6-0 win over Stavrianakou at No. 3 to give Missouri a 2-0 lead. Christensen prevailed 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 over Lisenby and Gaytan-Leach earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Bouet to clinch the victory for the Tigers.

Stuhlmann put the home squad on top 5-0 after a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dalvai at No. 2 play, while Rhyner defeated Amsallem 8-5 at No. 5 and Clark ousted Maddie Schulte, 8-2, at No. 6 action.


 

 

The Tigers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 23 as they host Stephen F. Austin at 11 a.m. at the Green Tennis Center.
