B.A., Public Relations, Washburn University, 2006
Pursuing M.A. in Journalism, University of Missouri (current)
Blake Edwards was born in Columbia, Missouri. He played number one for the Hickman Kewpies. During his Kewpie career, he won both doubles and singles in districts, qualifying for state two of his three years playing high school tennis.
He accepted a tennis scholarship to Washburn University in 2002. He was his team's captain, and anchored a team that was the first in Washburn's history to win its conference and go to the NCAA Division II tournament. The 2004 team advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16, and his team was ranked in the top-20 for three of his four years on the team.
After finishing his degree in Public Relations, he began teaching tennis at the Oakwood Country Club. He has his USPTA Certification, and has placed in the highest percentile for USPTA instruction. Coach Edwards enthusiastically embraces his duties with the Tigers, and thoroughly enjoys "giving back" by working with the Mizzou women's tennis team, as well as up-and-coming juniors in the Columbia when time allows.
He intends to train some of the strongest players in Columbia, and will always emphasize that hard work and mental toughness are the keys to the game.
Aside from tennis, Coach Edwards loves music, literature, really good comedy, and the feeling you get when your hands begin to defrost after a really intense snowball fight. He also intends to run for Mayor one day because he feels he would make a great one.
