Tigers Finish Competition at World University Games

KAZAN, Russia - Four current and former members of the Mizzou swimming and diving program recently competed in the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia. Diver Loren Figueroa was part of the U.S.'s delegation, while swimmer Igor Kozlovskij was a member of Lithuania's team. Former Tigers Jowan Qupty and Yaniv Shnaider both competed for Israel.

Competing in her second World University Games, Figueroa participated in the 1-meter dive. The Houston, Texas, native took eighth in preliminaries with a score of 247.20. The top eight competitors moved on to the semifinals, however, only two divers from each country were permitted to advance. As two other American divers qualified ahead of Figueroa, she could not move on. Figueroa did earn a silver medal as the U.S. Women's Team Diving Team did finished second overall in team competition.

Kozlovskij swam two events and advanced to the semifinals in both. He took eighth in 200 IM prelims with a 2:03.00 to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, Kozlovskij just missed the finals as he took ninth in a time of 2:02.24. In the 200 breast, Kozlovskij was eighth after prelims with a time of 2:14.77 and ultimately finished in 11th after swimming a 2:14.74 in the semis.

Qupty swam four events as part of Israel's delegation. He took 20th in the 200 breast (2:17.52), 22nd in the 100 breast (1:02.88) and 33rd in the 50 breast (29.35). In the 4x100 medley relay, he was a part of Israel's 10th-place team (3:44.54).

Shnaider, who ended his Mizzou career in 2012, swam the 200 breast, 200 IM, 200 IM and 4x100 free relay for Israel. He placed 21st in the 400 IM (4:31.24), 24th in the 200 IM (2:06.16) and 31st in the 200 breast (2:21.27). Israel's 4x100 free relay team took 15th in a time of 3:27.96.
