HOUSTON - Eight members of the Mizzou men's and women's diving teams will compete at the 2013 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships Monday, March 11 - Wednesday, March 13 at the CRWC Natatrium in Houston, Texas. Eight men and seven women will earn berths to the upcoming NCAA Championships based on results from the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform competition.
All divers will compete in preliminaries sessions, with 18 advancing to finals in the springboard events and 12 moving on in the platform. Finals will take place 15 minutes after prelims. In all events, prelims scores will carry over and be added to scores in finals to determine final placement.
Competition gets underway on Monday with the men's 1-meter at 11 a.m. and the women's 3-meter at 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, the women's 1-meter begins at 11 a.m. and the men's 3-meter at 4:30 p.m. Competition concludes on Wednesday with the women's platform at 11 a.m. and the men's platform at 2 p.m.
Five women and three men will dive for Mizzou at this week's Zone D Championships. On the women's side, sophomore Lauren Callin and freshman Lauren Reedy will compete in all three events, while senior Sharon Finn and redshirt sophomores Loren Figueroa and Alex Skinner will go on the 1 and 3-meter.
As a freshman in 2011, Figueroa advanced to the NCAA Championships after a second-place finish on the 1-meter at the Zone Championships. She went on to earn runner-up honors on the event at NCAAs.
On the men's side, junior David Bonuchi and freshmen Cameron Cowgill and Clark Thomas will compete at the Zone Championships. Bonuchi advanced to the NCAA Championships in his first two years as a Tiger and emerged with five All-America honors. In 2011, he placed fourth on the platform and eighth on the 3-meter, while he earned a second-place showing on the platform, fourth on the 3-meter and sixth on the 1-meter in 2012.
