Three Tigers Earn Individual Invites to NCAAs

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Junior Danielle Barbiea, sophomore Anna Patterson and freshman Katharine Ross of the Mizzou women's swimming team all earned individual invitations to compete in the 2014 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, held March 20-22 in Minneapolis, Minn., the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

Missouri is also eligible to swim the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay at the meet. The Tigers' relay-only swimmers will be announced at a later date.

Barbiea earned her second consecutive NCAA Championships berth. The junior, who is currently tied for the nation's top time in the 100 fly, was a qualifier in both the 100 fly (51.13) and 100 free (48.80). She is also eligible to swim the 50 free (22.42) at the Championships as she recorded an NCAA 'B' qualifying time in the event during the course of the season. Last season, Barbiea earned All-America honorable mention honors in the 100 fly after finishing 15th in the event at NCAAs. She also claimed four additional honorable mention accolades as part of Mizzou relay teams.

Also earning her second NCAA Championship invite was Patterson, who qualified as a freshman in 2013. This season, Patterson qualified in both the 100 free (48.21) and 50 free (22.32), events in which she ranks 15th and 31st, respectively. Additionally, she can swim the 100 fly (53.23) at the NCAA Championships. Patterson claimed three All-America honorable mention honors at the 2013 Championships as part of Mizzou relays. Most recently, she placed sixth in the 100 free at the SEC Championships.

Only a freshman, Ross claimed an invite in the 100 breast, where she ranks 16th nationally with a time of 59.56. She is also eligible to swim both the 200 breast (2:11.44) and 200 IM (2:00.28) at the NCAA Championships. This season, Ross set Mizzou's 100 breast record and had finished of 10th in the 100 breast and 15th in the 200 breast at the SEC Championships.
