Big 12 Announces Academic All-Conference Teams

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Big 12 Conference announced it's 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming and Diving teams on Tuesday, honoring 116 student-athletes for their work in the classroom. Of the 116 student-athletes named, 28 are Missouri Tigers, which includes 11 men and 17 women.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 over the past two semesters while participating in at least 60% of their team's scheduled contests. Those who maintain a grade point average of 3.20 or higher qualify for the first team, while those with a 3.00 to 3.19 grade point average qualify for the second team.

Senior Brad Hubbard and junior Colleen Gordon were two of just 19 to be nominated with a 4.00 grade point average. Hubbard was one of only four men, while Gordon was one of 16 women to earn the achievement.

Along with Hubbard, seniors Matt Dahlke, Ted Harris, Jake Hoffmann and Gilad Kaufman, juniors Matt Burns, Martin Cernansky and Greg DeStephen and sophomore Jordan Hawley earned first team honors, while seniors Byron Carlisle and Eric Smith were named to the second team.

On the women's side, seniors Allie Bennett, Kayla Bowcutt, Lauren Cox, Kirsten David, Jill Granger, Lori Halvorson and Kendra Melnychuk, juniors Molly Bollen and Kristen Viger and sophomores Lauren Lavigna and Mary Sheahen joined Gordon on the first team. Seniors Coralie Baumann and Erin Yeager, along with sophomores Melissa Jamerson, Morgan McCleery and Francie Szostak were awarded with second team honors.
