COLUMBIA, Mo. - Three University of Missouri swimmers advanced to the championship finals on day two of the of the 2012 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships in preliminary action Thursday morning.

In the 200 IM, senior Shara Stafford qualified for finals as she swam the top preliminary time at 1:56.30, which stands as the eight-fastest time in the nation so far this season. Juniors Rachel Ripley and Dominique Bouchard earned spots in the consolation finals, as Ripley just missed the "A" final by .01 qualifying ninth with a time of 2:00.48. Bouchard qualified 14th in the event with a time of 2:02.07.

Senior Stephanie Rovig and junior Ashley Patterson both qualified for the consolation finals in the 500 free. Rovig finished 10th in preliminary action with a time of 4:54.03, while Patterson swam 4:56.34 to finish in 14th.

In the 50 free, senior Lisa Nathanson and junior Cassie Cunningham both advanced to the championship finals. The pair finished preliminary competition in sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 22.80 and 22.82. Additionally, freshman Emily Doucette qualified 12th and Junior Sydney Schaefer qualified 14th for tonights consolation final. Doucette swam a time of 23.24 while Schaefer went 23.49.

In the diving well, a trio of Tigers finished four-five-six in the preliminaries of the 1 meter competition. Senior Jordan Morcom was fourth with a score of 279.95, senior Christina Gailey fifth with a 278.30 and junior Sharon Finn came in sixth with a score of 257.70.

 

 

Thursday finals action starts at 6 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
