Loren Figueroa Earns NCAA Championships Berth

HOUSTON - Redshirt sophomore Loren Figueroa earned a berth to next week's NCAA Championships after winning the 1-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships Tuesday in Houston, Texas. The top three finishers on the event were guaranteed spots at the Championships. Figueroa advanced for the second time in her career.

An Oklahoma City, Okla., native, Figueroa posted a score of 623.25 on the day and led throughout the two-round competition. She scored 316.10 points in the preliminary session and maintained her lead in the final six dives in the finals. This marks Figueroa's first career Zone D diving title, as she placed second on the 1-meter as a freshman in 2011. She also remains undefeated in the 1-meter this season, as she has won all 10 meets she has entered in 2012-13.

Also advancing to the afternoon finals were freshman Lauren Reedy and senior Sharon Finn. Reedy, who scored 272.45 points in prelims, ended the day in ninth with 539.85. Finn took 18th with 519.00, after notching a score of 256.05 in prelims.

Figueroa NCAA Championships berth is the second of her career, as she also qualified as a freshman in 2011 and was forced to sit out last season due to injury. She placed second on the 1-meter at the 2011 NCAA Championships.

The Mizzou women conclude action at the NCAA Zone D Championships on Wednesday, March 13 with the platform competition at 11 a.m.
