Mizzou Claims First Ever Big 12 Relay in Day Two of Big 12's

COLUMBIA, Mo. - In the second day of competition in the 2012 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship at Mizzou Aquatic Center, the Missouri women's swimming and diving team are in third place with 225 points.

The Tigers got the evening off with a bang in the 200 free as the team of Shara Stafford, Cassie Cunningham, Emily Doucette and Lisa Nathanson claimed Mizzou's first ever Big 12 relay title in a school record time of 1:28.43. As of Thursday evening, Mizzou's 200 Free relay is ranked third in NCAA Division I.

Shara Stafford earned a third place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.15, while Rachel Ripley finished eleventh in 2:00.93, and Dominique Bouchard came in fourteenth in 2:02.41.

In the 500 free, Stephanie Rovig took 12th place as she swam a 4:51.20, while Ashley Paterson came in 16th with a time of 4:57.90.

Nathanson earned a fourth place finish in the 50 Free event, recording a time of 22.76 and meeting the NCAA B-Qualifying standard. Also in the 50 Free event, Cunningham finished eighth in 22.97, Doucette came in eleventh in 23.20, and Sydney Schaefer recorded a time of 23.42 for fourteenth.

In the diving well, a trio of Tigers finished three-four-five in the 1 mtr finals. Senior Jordan Morcom claimed third place with a score of 281.75, while junior Sharon Finn finished in fourth with a 276.60 and senior Christina Gailey came in fifth with a score of 272.25.

Thursday finals action starts at 6 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
