COLUMBIA, Mo. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released their 2011 All-America Scholar Athletes, and the Missouri softball program had 10 student-athletes from last year’s squad recognized for their academic achievement. Mizzou also led the Big 12 Conference and finished 45th nationally with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.290.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. The award is the second component of the Association’s academic award program. Last week, the teams with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as a 2011 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic team.

For the Tigers, current team members Brianna Corwin, Ashley Fleming, Nicole Hudson, Jenna Marston, Kristin Nottelmann and Mackenzie Sykes were recognized, as were four recent graduates in Alaina Burkhart, Megan Christopher, Kathryn Poet and Abby Vock. Missouri led the Big 12 this past season in Academic All-Conference selections.

Mizzou closes out their fall schedule next Friday, Oct. 14 with a doubleheader against Jefferson County Community College and Lindenwood, beginning at 3:30 p.m. CT at University Field.
