Columbia, Mo.-The University of Missouri softball team will continue its fall schedule this weekend as Mizzou welcomes three in-state rivals to University Field on Saturday and Sunday (Southeast Missouri State, Southwest Missouri State and UMKC). All funds that are taken in at the tournament will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Admission is free to the games and donations will be accepted at the gate. Persons who donate will receive coupons for discounted merchandise at the Tiger Team Store and will be automatically entered in raffles for an assortment of prizes.
Head coach Jay Miller said the Tigers are excited to have the chance to raise money for a worthy cause like the American Cancer Society and also about starting a new tradition at MU.
"We are looking forward to a great weekend of softball. This is our first event of this kind and we hope to make it annual event," Miller said. "We invited all of the NCAA Division I schools in the state and it should an outstanding weekend of softball for everyone."
The American Cancer Society has been fighting more than 100 types of cancer for almost 90 years. Donations support critical cancer research and services to cancer patients and their families in the community.
The Tigers head into the Classic at 4-0. Mizzou has outscored its opponents 27-5 so far this fall. The tournament will begin Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Tiger's first action of the tournament will be against the Otahkians of Southeast Missouri State with first pitch set for 5 p.m. A complete schedule of the Charity Classic is below.
