COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou Softball squad kicked off their fall schedule Friday evening at University Field with a pair of victories over visiting Columbia College and Heartland Community College.
In game one of the double-header, Mizzou came away with a 9-0 win over Columbia College, highlighted by an outstanding start from freshman pitcher Tori Finucane (Germantown, M.D.). In 4.0 shutout innings pitched, Finucane racked up nine strikeouts, while only allowing one hit.
Senior pitcher Alora Marble (Jefferson City, Mo.) completed the shutout for the Tigers with 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.
Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.), Casey Stangel (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), and Sarah Moore (Chino Hills, Calif.) each tallied two hit efforts at the plate for Mizzou.
Game two of the twin billing saw a late-inning comeback by the Tigers, as they came away with a 7-5 victory over Heartland Community College. Mizzou entered the top of the seventh trailing by a run, but responded with a three run frame. Freshman Jordan Zolman (Arbyrd, Mo.) retired Heartland CC in order in the bottom half of the seventh to secure the 7-5 win.
Junior Angela Randazzo (Poway, Calif.) had a big day at the plate in game two, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) also collected two hits and a run scored for the Tigers.
The Tigers will continue their 2013 fall schedule next Friday, Sep. 27 with a double-header against North Central Missouri College and Lake Land College (Mattoon, Ill.).
Admission to fall games is free of charge. Mizzou's opponents will play a third game against one another at 6 p.m. next Friday.
