OKLAHOMA CITY - For the third-consecutive year, Mizzou softball will be represented on the USA Softball Women's National Team, as the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) and USA Softball announced former Tigers Nicole Hudson and Rhea Taylor were selected to the 18-member squad on Friday.
Team USA and its Tiger duo will compete in three separate events in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Following the World Cup, the Women's National Team is slated to compete from July 16-22 at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada, and August 5-18 at an International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championship/Pan American Games qualifier in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Hudson finished her Mizzou career ranking in the school's all-time Top 10 in hits, doubles, home runs, at-bats, runs scored, RBI and walks. Hudson sits No. 1 atop the Tigers' all-time walks chart with 143. She finished just one home run shy of matching the school's career home run record of 47. She earned Second Team All-Southeast Region recognition after batting .308 with 16 home runs, 45 RBI and a .692 slugging percentage.
Now a three-time member of Team USA after selections in 2011 and 2012, Taylor was a three-time All-American for Mizzou in 2008, 2010 and 2011. She was a part of two World Cup Championship performances (2011, 12) for Team USA, also helping the team to a silver medal at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championships last year. Taylor helped the squad to a first-place performance at the Pan American Games in 2011.
Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./head coach at USF) will lead the National Team and will be assisted by four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Laura Berg (Corvallis, Ore./head coach at Oregon State) as well as Suzy Brazney (Huntington Beach, Calif./head coach at Golden West College), Howard Dobson (Orange, Texas/assistant coach at LSU), Karen Weekly (Edmonds, Wash./co-head coach at Tennessee) and Mike White (Eugene, Ore/ head coach at Oregon) throughout the summer events.
