OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – University of Missouri junior Abby Vock was named as the recipient of the inaugural NCAA Elite 88 award for softball, as announced by the NCAA on Saturday at the 2010 Women’s College World Series, held in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Elite 88, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

Vock, an accountancy major, receives the honor after posting a 3.84 grade point average.  The Morrison, Ill. native has been selected as a member of the Academic All-Big 12 first team each of the past two seasons.  She becomes the first Missouri Tiger and sixth student-athlete in the Big 12 to earn the award.
